1) THE EVENTS

1. Corsica 01->05/05/2011
Let's read again the words from Mauro that summed up very well this annual official meeting, with a smaller group than usually, but a great froendly group : "We again had a lot of fun during the meeting. The climbs were tough at times and beautiful too. The planning was very demanding du to the narrow and winding roads that take 30-40km/h and hence quite some time for the moves. But as most of us cycled the 10 BIGs (and some even had to pick up a rental car) I would say that the planning could not have been much better. The Roadbook was an asset this year to have as we did not have a local guide unfortunately." . It was the first approach of a meeting in an island. Next year, we're coming again with a continental meeting, for the first time in the eastern countries and success with the amount of participants already appears...
2. Côte d'Azur/Liguria 29/10->03/11/2011
According tot he words of one of the main manager of this crossroad, this kind of meeting is sometimes a trouble in the head. This is in fact not an organization like the annual meeting, and if everybody is coming from different plcaes, it's sometimes disappointing not to have informations about where the other ones are. Also some troubles with cars and bikes, but it's quite usual in those cycling adventures. Well, indeed, at the end, a good crossroad for some and a more disappointing crossroad for others. Next year, the crossroad will happen in Scotland, under Kevin Speed's management. Back in the UK islands...
3. Regional meetings
a) Klimmen (NL) On Sunday the 10th of April the ABC Sponsortour was organised by Cycling4better, Villa Proosdij and BIG. Over 30 people cycled 100km or 70km including all the 7 BIGs in Limburg under a radiant sun. Steven Rooks joined them during the break in Vijlen.
b) Paszto (H)
HUNGARIAN 2011 BIG-DAY FULL OF SUCCESS. This saturday 14th of may 2011 saw in the slopes of the Galyatetö the hungarian big-day of the year. Full success with 20 big members trying to climb three times this big nr 851. For some of them, these climbs are part of their attempt of "ironbig" on the same climb in the Matras.
c) Bouillon (B)
This 13th of June, Dominique Jacquemin organized a regional meeting marked with quality. 5 persons on the road for the 90km, and 8 on the 45km, with a good common meeting up the col du Saty and a good common dinner in Bouillon.
4. Ironbigs
The idea of Ironbig didn't disappear with the end of the 25th birthday. About 60 godfathers in 2010, about 40 new ones in 2011. It slowly moves to some different adventures with the appearance of the amount of ironbigs won in classements, and indeed nearly 10 members become godfathers of bigs out of their own country. Also, the youngest godfather, 15 years old, showed the way. Finally, groups seem to manage common ideas of ironbig adventures. A dutch group with 5 members and an hungarian group with 4 members succeeded together those kinds of experiences.
5. The King is born.
Etienne Mayeur did it. Main moment for the challenge in its 26th year of existence. Somebody realized the unbelievable with a fantastic enthusiasm and a terrible regularity, very soon met in the coming days with Eric Lucas certainly. Etienne Mayeur became BEG with the whole list climbed. 1000 BIGs, yes, 1000 BIGs. No words to say our respect.
