If you are staying in Kusadasi and want to score a 500+ m BIG there are two options: to go up the hill above the ancient town of Ephesus (must visit) or go to Dilek national park. I did the latter which was a mistake. Found a rental MTB at a small hotel (Mursel), which was too small but couldn't find another. From the city to the hills it is about 17 km, flat along the coast. I picked a road with a dead end on bike maps starting in Guzelcamli. This turned out to be unpaved ater about 1 km with very steep parts in loose sand and a lot of rocks.
According to the Strava profile regularly above 40%??? Hard to believe but it really felt like that. I never stopped so often on a climb to catch my breath or because I just went too slow. I saw a turtle on the side of the road (see pictures) which went almost faster than me. The views were beautiful but I really couldn't enjoy too much.
