ITA-333 - Casso (Valle del Vajont)

REPETTI M A U R O - 25-11-2023:
You climb this road with your mind thinking the disaster of the 1963, when a big part of Toc mountain slipped into the lake created from Vajont Dam, killing more than 2000 people.
The climb can be divided in two parts = the 1st just after the Dam, large road with good tarmac and 3 tunnels (alternating direction with traffic lights) - slope 7-8 % ;
the 2nd part that lead to the village of Casso (super medieval village with now 20 residents and a little bar-shop) , narrow road with many hairpins and slope also more than 10 %.
Casso was only touched from the 200 meters high wave (yes, 200 meters !!) caused by the landslide into the lake.
Longarone instead, where climb start, was totally destroyed.
Every part of the climb remind what had happened, with monuments, churches, and 487 little flags with the names of the children that lost their lives.
Car park = just after Longarone bridge or in town.
