Hanskühnenburg
The nicest climb of the Harz in my view.
Closed to cars after 1.5 km and entirely in the forest. Useless to say I didn't see any other cyclists.
After the 1st km it's calm and then gradually going up. You're afraid it will never end!
The last and steepest 600 meters are (badly) gravelled.
Then - waouuw - and a pub!
It was 17:15 and the pub was closing at 17:00. Never mind, there was a waiter smoking outside who reopened the pud and sold me one beer reqeusting to drink it outside and leave glass and bottle on the floor next to the door. I had the terrace for my own!

Fermée aux voitures après 1.5 km et entièrement dans la forêt. Pas besoin de préciser que je n'ai croisé aucun cycliste.
Après un km de montée, la route s'aplanit puis progressivement se cabre, se cabre, se cabre. On a peur qu'elle n'arrête pas!
Les derniers 600 mètres, les plus pentus, sont muletiers et de mauvaise qualité.
Qu'importe, la vue est splendide là tout en-haut et il y a un pub!
Il était 17h15 quand je suis arrivé et l'établissement fermait à 17h00. Très gentiment, le serveur qui fumait sa dernière clope à l'extérieur a rouvert le bar et m'a vendu une bière à boire dehors et m'a demandé de simplement laisser le verre et la bouteille à côté de la porte quand j'avais fini. J'ai donc pu la savourer calmement en profitant de la terrasse pour moi tout seul !
Wikipedia: The Hanskühnenburg is a mountain hut (German: Bergbaude) in the Harz mountains. It is located at a height of 811 m (2,661 ft) above sea level in fields known as Auf dem Acker, or simply Acker, in the middle of the Harz National Park and has its own observation tower. Its name comes from the legendary Hanskühnenburg Crag (Hanskühnenburg Klippe) 300 metres to the northwest, which was visited on 14 August 1784 by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Opposite the tower are the Hanskühnenburg Rocks (Hanskühnenburg Felsen) that are relatively small by comparison with the Klippe. A bronze plaque was mounted on these rocks in 1999 to commemorate Goethe's visit. In front of the Hanskühnenburg Rocks, a monument was erected in 1924 to Albert Leo Schlageter. It has since fallen over and is rather weathered.
