ITA-261 - Passo Vezzena (incl. Monterovere - Menador)

REPETTI M A U R O - 10-09-2023:
Climbed the side from Caldonazzo.
The first 8 km are the true Menador, with an av slope (from the cross, start climb) of 9,4 % (with max 15-16 %).
An hard climb with no one meter of flat.
Road is often narrow, there're 2 short tunnels.
After top Menador mt 1264, a short descent lead you to the cross (left) for Passo Vezzena , where the last 3,5 km (except first bit at 10%) are 5-6 % .
Going up the Menador road, you have beautiful and wide panoramic views of the lakes and the part of the Alta Valsugana.
Narrow and winding, boldly cut into the rock, is a road renowned for the splendid views it offers, curve after curve, and view of lakes of Levico and Caldonazzo.
Was built by the Austro-Hungarian soldiers (called «Kaiserjägerweg») and used for military reasons during the war of 1915-1918 for quickly connect the Italian-Austrian front ; a route then used for military supply purposes for the troops during the Great War.

TAYLOR Martin - 19-10-2022:
Road from the south was closed when I did it. I had to climb through a hole in a fence, carry my bike over some construction work, and then remove another barrier to get out!
Still worth it for the views...
Looked like work was in progress so should be OK for the 2023 season
