3) THE WEBSITE

Wouter De Ruyck, our webmaster, created a new website in 2010, still better than the previous one. The website challenge-big 1.0 from 2002 to 2007 was a static one. The website challenge-big 1.0+ from 2008 to july 2010 was a dynamic one. The website 2.0, since july 2010, is a dynamic community, with user-input.
Wouter decided to work with us differently and to give special periods of works with our association. He worked a lot in november, and now he'll also be busy at the end of december; but let's be careful that if we need some great improvement in the website, it sometimes requests a lot of time before having it really online.
1. The languages
The website is in 15 different languages : nl,uk,fr,ro,de,es,it,hu,cz,pl,sv,pt,sk,dk,si. There are normally official translators designed for each language and they can work when they want with a personal permission and new features to update the missing fields, the new pages and the FAQs. The result is not yet perfect. There are great differences between the languages, but if one language hasn't the translation, the english language appears per default in the page. We always need somebody for translating in slovenian and danish languages, with the target to give good company to the few members of those great cycling countries inside our dear B.I.G challenge.
2. The improvements
Just announced in those news a few weeks ago, you've noticed the several improvements already fixed and still under works. I'm sure that 2012 will begin with a website still giving more easiness, help and use than before.
3. Problems
The delay requested to fix a problem in the website is a real problem for the challenge but we're not a professional enterprise, even if we do our best to seem like one. Some datas waits since a long time to be updated and revisited but the day by day work, in addition of the professional and familial business of our committee's managers, requests their whole time currently. We're always fetching to some good improvements, more mechanical and automatic, to give time to the committee to manage what the 4000 members are requiring. But it's sometimes hard to give satisfaction to everybody. It will be a good challenge to attempt this kind of insured and efficient management in a very near coming future, I think !
