Steep and with no pauses, the side from Bolzaneto (red track) is the classic climb to Santuario (and also the hardest side and one of the most interesting of all Liguria).
1st km is almost flat, real climb start in Geo, so the average from here is 9,2 % !!
The road is enough large and with tarmac not bad ; traffic is very poor (except summer weekends) ; solitude and silence accompany you all the way.
The last 450 m are a wall, with steep at 16-17 % (200 final mt they were paved, but now - sadly - are tarmaced).
A plate here advises cars to engage first gear (and is true also for cyclists ahah).
Wonderful views from top, on sea, Genova and Appenines.
The Santuario is visible from distance from the low valley and from motorway.
Giro Italia came here in 2007 , stage won by Piepoli (you can still see his name on the wall up the road)
Car park = I parked after 4 km, in S.Bernardo, in a lay-by on the side of the road.
