The common name of this climb is Monte Cimone which is highest mountain of North Apennine (2165m). The paved road continues for about 3.5 km passing Lago della Ninfa and reaches Pian Cavallaro (1870 m) just under the elevation of Monte Cimone. Passo del Lupo was the arrival of one stage of Giro. Thereafter the road is very narrow but motor vehicles are obliged to stop at Lago della Ninfa at the juntion with the other road from Fanano.
