CHE-185 - La Dogana (Viano )

GOBERT Daniel - 02-01-2024:
Jerry, of course with special bikes or walking, one can ho higher but the asphalted main specificity of our lists don't give us the permission to increase our tracks like that. We'll keep it as it is now, the commentary of Mauro gives enough enthusiasm for this climb to keep it in its current shape. But thank you for your suggestions, of course.

REPETTI M A U R O - 01-01-2024:
Viano from Brusio is a wonderful gem in Graubunden Switzerland, nominated one of best village.
With its 607 mt drop and average 10,2 and max 21 %, this 6 km climb will be a hard challenge.
Perfect tarmac, but very narrow road, only x 1 car (and maybe a bike), is literally builts on cliffs, and permit a superb view on the famous circular viaduct of the Swiss Bernina Railway.
Arrived in Viano, take the left road and enter in the cobbled village, for to reach in 1,3 km the top, where lies the old Dogana (costum) and border with Italy (possible descend in Baruffini e Tirano but only with MTB/VTT)
From the climb you can see another superb Suisse-Nat, Cavajone, on the mount on other side of the valley.
Car park = in Brusio.

NILSON Jerry - 01-01-2024:
Did not do the last stretch to La Dogana as there are two better end points here: the fully paved highest road goes to Braga and pavement ends in Val Irola at 1499m. The even better end is the fantastic San Rumedi/San Romerio (Chiesa di San Romerio) (1798m) which requires short walking with a road bike in at least one place on the path/track at the end.
