CHE-237 - Grotto Efra - Fracèd

REPETTI M A U R O - 02-01-2024:
Amazing place to visit, the Verzasca valley, but AVOID summer weekends, cos the valley is assaulted by tourist (from Italy above all), making the bike climb a suffering in the midst of queue of cars, with all the associated risks (spring and autumn the best quiet period, locals said me, and was right, I climbed in total peace)

It is one of the places that has best maintained its oldest characteristics ,mountains and wild corner, steep slopes and countless waterfalls.
The Verzasca river flows through the valley, whose waters goes in Lake Vogorno -- you will see the Contra Dam, made famous by the film "Goldeneye", where Bond jumped from 220m high (it is the 4th highest dam in Switzerland) -- further up the valley you will see the medieval two-arched bridge of Lavertezzo, and its "pozze", swimming spots in crystal clear water.
Climb starts up in Brione Verzasca (740 mt) with its 180 inhabitants ; this road was built between 1866 and 1871;
Slope is around 2-3 % until Sonogno (80 citizens) , an old wonderful stone village ;
Pass in front of its church with destination Redorta valley ; then in 800 meters u will reach Grotto Efra, a typical restaurant ;
Pass on left the Froda Waterfall, and from here slope increase, with max 11 -12 %, until the road end.
Road large and perfect tarmac from Brione to Sonogno church (km 7,7 ca)
From Sonogno church to end road ,2,6 km long , narrow road with bumpy tarmac and 4 short pieces of rock cobbled.
Car park = at the enter of Brione, just after bridge, on the right.

Never went to the end of the valley here, which I regret now, but instead climbed to the highest paved point in the valley Monte Valdo/Tecc di Cima (1273m) – also a nice point for views around and you also much of the nice valley until there. Best would be to go to both places I believe.
