UKD-318 - Combe Gibbet (aka Walbury Hill)

Side from Inkpen is a gradual ascent, with av 9% for half mile. Near the end of the climb, there's a section of 16%. Near top a gibbet was erected in 1676 for the purpose of gibbeting the bodies of 2 murderers and was placed in such a prominent location as a warning, to deter others from committing similar crimes.
This hill is also famous for has been used for practise by parachuters before the D-day in 1944.
Tarmac is good, traffic absent ;
Walbury hill is the highest point in Hampshire.

Take track from the top heading west to reach the Gibbet itself on the Ridgeway, also take the road to the east from the top to view monument to parachutists who trained here for 1945 D-Day invasion, on Walbury Hill
