ITA-126 - Passo Cento Croci

REPETTI M A U R O - 03-10-2022:
Wonderful Appennini climb (border between Liguria and Emilia) , I did side from Varese Ligure in a autumn day with superb colours -town worth a visit for its castle, Roman bridge and its circular village -- it is 13 km in lenght with average % is 5,5 with a max of 8 %, so a climb where you can find your regular rhythm.
Traffic is almost inexistent, tarmac typical of Appenini, bumpy and cracked.
The characteristic of this pass is the weather, infact the last 4 km of the climb are almost always immersed in the fog and wind (often you start from Varese Ligure with the heat and at the top you shiver from the cold ..also in the summer) - the same happened to me, bottom seemed summer, on top seemed to be on another planet.
For the wind, they have placed wind turbines on the top, one right on the pass.
Climb without shadow with great panorama on the surronded valleys.
The name CENTO CROCI seems to derive from the numerous crosses placed in the place as memories of murdered travelers, dead from the cold or killed by wolves.
Ther's a monument to the partisans (very popular in these parts during the wars).
Giro d'italia has passed 7 times (last in 1999)
