The climb from Nicolosi is probably the most spectacular. Easy steady climb through lava fields and past destroyed houses. Difficult to rent a bike here. I finally got one at B&B Sotto il Volcano (under the volcano) in Nicolosi. Old hybrid but at least the gears and brakes worked.

I started at Catania, at sea level. That made it a 35 km long climb for
1921 height meters, which took me about 3h. Its a beautiful surrounding whit all that lava and a spectacular view, due that it is also always windy as there are limited trees. The road surface of the S version is rough, the one of SE is much better (as it had to be replaced after the last eruption).
